Clean your hood – every action can make a difference

Everyone can contribute, because only together can we manage to tackle the plastic problem.

We use the sea, travel to the most beautiful places in the world, just to be able to enjoy a kite session and pursue our passion. And yet we look closely and see that we are also partly responsible for the problem. Therefore, we at Salty Lemon not only want to encourage our community to create these wonderful moments, but also motivate them to protect our oceans.

Clean your hood

The rubbish on our doorstep quickly ends up in the surrounding waterways and rivers, so we decided to do a clean-up in our hood – in Hamburg, next to the Elbe. Preventively protect the sea by tackling and cleaning up the rubbish at home.

In mid-June, together with our partners Überquell, Oclean and One Earth One Ocean, we called for a ‘clean-up’ at the shores of the Elbe in Hamburg. After a short introduction to the material, a short lecture about plastic pollution, and the introduction of the organisation One Earth One Ocean we started to clean up. Originally it was thought that we would clean the whole area, but due to the vast amount of trash close to our meeting point, we decided to focus our clean-up on this area. Together with 18 helpers, we were able to fill 32 rubbish bags within 1 1/2 hours. Our most unusual finds were a bumper, hubcaps, a scooter, and several shoes.

One of our partners, the organisation One Earth One Ocean, works professionally to get rubbish out of the oceans. Not only with the organisation of clean-ups, but also with a ‘maritime waste disposal’.

We would very much like to continue supporting this so that we were able to collect €100 in donations for the organisation.

We would like to thank everyone who joined our session.
